Born in Newbury, Berkshire I spent almost all my early life in Essex and Kent, most of my childhood being spent on livestock farms.

In 1986 I completed a degree in English Studies at Sunderland University which developed my lifelong love of Shakespeare.

I have lived in Kent since 1990 and prior to that lived in London and Cambridge.

My style is expressionist and figurative and I am interested in the Fauves, German Expressionists and early Renaissance painters.  I am also interested in landscape and equine painting, and the difficulty of avoiding cliché in these genres as well as trying to invest my work with a sense of place.

I am especially interested in water and the sea in recent works as well as the environmental impact of the modern world on nature.

Friend of the Society of Equestrian Artists 2023.
